Winnie Huang & Kevin Toksöz Fairbairn

Interested in realising long-term research projects on instrumental design, interdisciplinary gestural interaction, and acoustic/technological feedback. From traditional instrumentation of trombones and violin/viola to invented instruments, we hope to bridge technological innovation with human gestural interactivity.

Sonic Silhouettes, Musical Movement

Winnie Huang’s doctoral research project investigated the role of the musical-gestural performer. Exploring works of the last sixty years, with different degrees of compositional collaboration, from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Winnie will work with composers such as Jessie Marino, Charlie Sdraulig, Sivan Cohen Elias and the Stockhausen Foundation among many others, clarifying ideas of embodiment, presentness and examining the roles of performer/composer/creator.
